My Week in Review: 11/25/17-12/2/17

I was very excited to try a few new to me authors last week - as well as read the latest in zombie series I've been truckin' through.  These are the books I want to share with you today.

Dead: Reborn by T W Brown - 4 Stars ****

Winter is losing its grip.

For Billy and the survivors who began the nightmare, the loss of Steve Hobart is devastating, but could they finally be finding a place to truly call home? Kevin resumes his original quest for a safe place in the Badlands of the Dakotas, but with a whole new gang. However, they stumble across another group of survivors and face a new dilemma. Do you try to save others at the risk of those you know and love?

Around the world, small bands of survivors fight to carve out a place for themselves, whether it is Sauvie Island or the British Isles...the struggle is the same. More horrors await, but with it, the first children of this new world bring hope...

Vaccination by Phillip Tomasso - 4 Stars ****

What if the H7N9 vaccination wasn’t just a preventative measure against swine flu?

It seemed like the flu came out of nowhere and yet, in no time at all the government manufactured a vaccination. Were lab workers diligent, or could the virus itself have been man-made?

Chase McKinney works as a dispatcher at 9-1-1. Taking emergency calls, it becomes immediately obvious that the entire city is infected with the walking dead. His first goal is to reach and save his two children.

Could the walls built by the U.S.A. to keep out illegal aliens, and the fact the Mexican government could not afford to vaccinate their citizens against the flu, make the southern border the only plausible destination for safety?

Grim Tidings by Amanda M Lee - 4 Stars ****

Grim(ace) while you work ...

Aisling Grimlock is having a bad week. Well, actually, she’s having a bad life -- not that she's complaining. Okay, she's totally complaining.

After being laid off from her secretarial position, she has no choice but to join the family business, and now she’s a full-time grim reaper. That’s right. She collects and transfers souls to the hereafter.

Cool, huh? Not quite.

On the second day of her new job, Aisling (literally!) stumbles over a dead body that’s not on her list and the stakes are suddenly raised because, when a name isn’t on the list, that means someone stole it (and that's never a good thing).

Aisling’s family, which consists of a tempestuous father and four overbearing older brothers, are hot on the case – but the answers they’re coming up with aren’t exactly soothing.

It seems a contingent of wraiths have descended on the area, and they’re not just dangerous for unsuspecting souls and the general populace. The Grimlock family is at risk, too.

If that weren’t bad enough, Aisling finds herself inexplicably drawn to Detective Griffin Taylor – the police officer who considers her a murder suspect. Oh, and she's a wraith-magnet -- although, truth be told, she's more interested in Detective Taylor.

Aisling is determined to prove that she has what it takes to be a great reaper – even if it means risking her life and proving her father and brothers wrong when it comes to her competence level.

When things finally become clear, will Aisling survive long enough to make things right? Or, will she fall prey to the wraiths and the individual controlling them?

Seizing Darkness by Mariana Thorn - 4 Stars ****

With her past distant and forgotten Natalya has built herself a nice life. She has a job she finds rewarding as a special agent with the Paranormal Investigation Bureau. Her partner, Dante, isn’t too bad for a bloodsucking vampire. Val, her boss, is like a father to her. Her favorite part is that she lives near the Cascade Mountains. Whenever she needs a little vacation, she can shift into a tiger and go running in the woods.

Life is good.

That is until recently. Agents are turning up dead and Natalya can’t pin down what is going on. Little does she know that her past is about to come back and bite her in the tail. With no memories before the last year she is a little behind the curve in finding out what is going on. When the investigation turns increasingly dangerous and the attacks more personal, Natalya realizes it’s more than just her own life on the line. Will she find out what is going on before it’s too late?

Devil's Due by Percival Constantine - 3 Stars ***

Half-human. Half-demon. All attitude.

Luther Cross here. Dangerously handsome, effortlessly stylish half-demon, at your service. As I have inherited certain...abilities with my odd genetics, I’ve put them to use as Chicago’s foremost paranormal investigator.

My current case? Well, I have to admit, it feels a little personal. I’m helping a mysterious girl who’s turned up on my doorstep, pregnant through mystic means. I can’t help but think of my own mother…and if I don’t help her, she’ll face the same fate.

Turns out, someone is trying to create an army of half-demons. While it might be a pleasant change to hang out with my own kind, I know most half-demons don’t have my sense of morality. If I don’t stop this evil plan, the armistice between Heaven and Hell will be broken and all of the Earth will pay… It will be the beginning of the end.

There ya have it.  I hope you are reading something wonderful.

Thanks for stopping by,
Michelle
