My Week in Review: 8/12/17-8/19/17

Last week was an amazing reading week for me.  I have been on a post apocalyptic kick and found several new to me authors that blew me away.  

Here they are:

Last Woman by Jacqueline Druga - 5 Stars *****

After emerging from a coma, Faye Wills opens her eyes to complete darkness and the feeling of being trapped. Soon she discovers she is in no less than a nightmare world and awakens in the worst place imaginable. She is one of thousands of bodies in a makeshift mass grave that was once a football stadium.

Left for dead.

There are no signs of life and the only sound she hears is the buzzing of flies that follow the stench of death.

Once out of the stadium she steps into a desolate, barren world, void of all life and people. Faye learns that while in a comatose state, the world was besieged by some sort of epidemic. Without a soul around, there are a lot of missing pieces.

Where did everyone go? What really happened?

Though in a weakened state, she must pull it together and move forward. She focuses on a goal of finding not only answers but survivors. However, the further she moves in her journey, the more Faye realizes that she may never find anyone and must face the very scary and real possibility that she may not only be the last woman on earth, but the last person as well.

Last Woman 2 by Jacqueline Druga - 5 Stars *****

After losing her entire family in a tragic accident, Faye Wills follows a path of depression and alcohol abuse in an attempt to bury her pain. Her course of self-destruction places her in an alcohol induced coma. When she wakes, she discovers the world was besieged by a virus and she was left for dead on top of a mound of bodies in a football stadium.

The world is a barren and desolate place and it works in Faye’s favor. With no desire to live, she sets a goal of making it home to die. Then she encounters Dodge and two young boys. They ignite a spark long lost in Faye. That spark is the will to live.

Following radio calls, they decide to join a growing camp of survivors. Until they discover that not only is Faye a survivor, she is the last surviving woman on earth. Suddenly the rules change. Faye is no longer safe in the growing violent world.

Marauders chase her and what is left of the government, actively seek her, stopping at nothing until they retrieve Faye.

While trying desperately to find a haven for her, Dodge and the boys, Faye must also discover her place and role in a world without women. Weighing the decision of what she wants to do against what she should do.

The continuation of man’s existence begins with Faye.

Gray: Part 1 by Lou Cadle - 5 Stars *****

A dense black cloud boiled up in the southeastern sky. It rose high and fast, like a time-lapse movie of the birth of a thunderhead. But it was no rain cloud. Wholly black, it reached up and loomed over her, blocking out the sun. Somehow she knew it was Death coming at her.

Pre-med student Coral is on a vacation in Idaho when something terrible happens. The black cloud is followed by a wildfire and searing heat that lasts for days. She survives deep in a cave but emerges days later to find the world transformed, a world of blackened trees, an ash-filled sky, and no living creatures except her.

So begins her desperate journey: to find water, and food, and other survivors...and the answer to the mystery of what happened.

Caged by Amber Lynn Natusch - 4 Stars ****

“I stood in the middle of the room, unmoving – I barely breathed. My life had just become surreal, impossible, and one enormous lie. I needed to go, to run somewhere, anywhere to beat back the reality that was rapidly closing in around me. The image of him was burned into my retina, flashing over and over again like a warning. He was trapped somewhere between human and decidedly not, and I realized that was my new reality.

I was too."

After the death of her parents, Ruby awakens from a lifetime of shadows and finds herself alone, thrust into a world of lies, deceit, betrayal and the supernatural.

As her quest for truth continues to come up short, she realizes that maybe some questions really are best left unanswered.

When her true identity is finally unveiled, she is forced to choose between two of the mysterious men who continually seem to crop up in her life.

She chooses poorly.

Now abandoned, Ruby must learn to call on the darkness within to survive, or spend a hellish eternity imprisoned because of it.

The List by Shannon Walters - 4 Stars ****

When a zombie virus sweeps the planet and puts humanity in a chokehold, hope is the only thing keeping Sara alive. Hope that the people who matter most are still alive. Who made it? Who didn't? Can they be saved? Can they save her?

Sara has made a list of her loved ones... what became of them is unknown to her. One by one, she will discover their fates, as she works her way through... THE LIST.

I can't tell you how pleased I was with these books.  I am looking forward to next week.  :)
