This weeks reading was a mixed bag for me, some of the books I enjoyed more than others. Here they are:
Dark Hunter by Megan Hawke
I am Sable Hart, and I slay rogue vampires.
I am the undead sheriff of Dallas' shadowy underworld. The
vampires might call me Black Heart, but they call me for help when their
leaders begin to be murdered in spectacular fashion.
The vampire, werewolf, and witch communities' uneasy peace
is threatened when one alpha wolf develops a dark hunger for vampire blood. Now
with a little help from my slayer friends, I race against time to stop the
rogue werewolf before all out war erupts and wipes Dallas off the face of the
earth.

harvest her organs, her only protector is a vampire, and she can do magic.
Well, sort of. She’s supposed to be able to do magic.

only will she get her organs stolen, her mom will blow up two major cities to

To Kill a Warlock by H P Mallory
The
murder of a dark arts warlock. A shape-shifting, ravenous creature on the
loose. A devilishly handsome stranger sent to investigate. Sometimes working
law enforcement for the Netherworld is a real bitch.
Dulcie O’Neil is a fairy. And not the type to frolic in
gardens. She’s a Regulator—a law-enforcement agent who monitors the creatures
of the Netherworld to keep them from wreaking havoc in the mortal world. When a
warlock is murdered and Dulcie was the last person to see him alive, she must
uncover the truth before she’s either deported back to the Netherworld, or she
becomes the next victim.
Enter Knight Vander, a sinfully attractive investigator sent
from the Netherworld to work the case with Dulcie. Between battling her
attraction to her self-appointed partner, keeping a sadomasochistic demon in
check, and fending off the advances of a sexy and powerful vampire, Dulcie’s
got her hands full.
As the body count increases, Dulcie finds herself battling
dark magic, reconnoitering in S&M clubs and suffering the greatest of all
betrayals.

Perilous Waif by E William Brown
My name is Alice Long, and I’ve always known I was
different.
When I was little I used to climb up to the highest branches
of the housetree at night, and watch the starships docking at the orbital
stations high above. Forty meters off the ground, watching ships thirty
thousand kilometers overhead, with senses that could pick out radar pings and
comm chatter as easily as the ships themselves. It all seemed perfectly natural
at the time.
There were other kids with mods at the orphanage, but
nothing like that. I learned fast to downplay my abilities, keep my mouth shut
and try to blend in. Even as a kid I knew not to trust the Matrons. What would
they do, if they realized the Adjustments that were supposed to make me a meek
little herd animal didn’t do anything?
Then I messed up, and gave myself away.
Now I’m on the run, hoping against hope that the Matrons
won’t try too hard to find me. Hoping to survive all the awful things that can
happen to a girl on her own in space. Kidnappers, slavers, pirates and yakuza -
no matter where I go, trouble always seems to find me.
Good thing I’m not as helpless as I look.

Kindred by Nicola Claire
Vampires, shapeshifters, ghouls and magic-users abound in a
world where the Norms, (those humans without paranormal abilities), are
ignorant of the creatures of the night and the supernatural species that live
alongside them.
Lucinda Monk is a bank teller by day and a vampire hunter by
night, but she wasn’t always a part of this world. Thrown into a heady mix of
powerful people and sensual beings, she’s had to find her way practically
blindfolded in amongst the creatures of the night.
Lucinda, though, is a capable and realistic kind of girl.
Her motto: Never Show Fear.
But there's something different about Luce. Something those
creatures she hunts want. So, in order to stay one step ahead of the enemy, she
has to let the enemy in. In all his compelling, seductive and delicious ways.
Sleeping with the enemy has never meant so much before. But
can she trust him?
From the urban streets of the city to the dark alleys and
sinful bars that promise a wickedness a girl from the farm has never before
been exposed to, Lucinda gets drawn irreversibly into the dark side of life.
And if the Master of the City has his way, she will always
be his. For eternity.
